A steam engine performs mechanical work using steam. Steam engines use the force produced by steam pressure to push a piston inside a cylinder.
After the mechanical components are assembled, open the boiler, put some water up to 2/3 of the volume, and leave 1/3 of the volume for the steam.
Be careful! This needs adult supervision. Fill the burner with a flammable fuel source such as ethanol, and light it to heat the boiler. After about 1-2 minutes, you can see steam coming out. When steam pushes pistons, the mini generator produces electricity to light an LED.
You (kids or friends) can learn the basic principles of steam engines and their applications by operating this experimental model.
